There will many events happening across the city throughout Easter. One popular choice for visitors is The Butlers Chocolate Experience, wander around the museum and decorate your own chocolate novelty.  There will be many egg hunts and activites nearby if you are feeling adventurous.  If you have an interest in Irish history you can visit the GPO and other historical sites and learn more about the 1916 Easter Rising. As Easter Monday is a Bank Holiday, there will be lots of entertainment to enjoy over the weekend.

1916 Commemoration 2019

Events will be taking place across the country over the weekend to mark the anniversary of the Easter Rising, which took place on April 24th, 1916.

A Military ceremony will place outside the GPO, Dublin on Easter Sunday 21st April, 2019.

The Defence Forces have upwards of 350 troops from all formations on parade to mark this occasion.

Representatives from across the Defence Forces are involved in the ceremony, including Reserve Defence Forces, the 1 Bde and 2 Bde, as well the Defence Forces Training Centre, the Air Corps and Naval Service.

Musical accompaniment for the ceremony is provided by a combination of the Defence Forces Brass, Reed and Pipe Bands.

1916 Commemoration 2019

Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony

The annual Wreath Laying Ceremony will also be held at Glasnevin Cemetery at 09:40hrs on Sunday 21 April 2019.

Wreaths will be laid at the Sigerson Monument, and the graves of Peadar Kearney and Edward Hollywood.

Egg-cellent Easter Craft Workshop

Enjoy an Easter workshop at EPIC the Irish Emigration Museum and explore the Irish legend of the Púca with a series of fun activities. A mischievous shapeshifter, the Púca often appears as a rabbit or hare to teach humans a lesson or two!

This workshop is inspired by Irish storytelling culture and the Easter tradition of displaying colourful eggs around the house, You will create your very own Púca and friends egg-themed characters for you to take home.

Event will last for 1 hour and is suitable for children aged 4 - 8 years. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times during the event.

Egg-cellent Easter Craft Workshop

Easter Eggspress Dublin - Wicklow Train Journey

To celebrate Easter Monday, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland have an egg-citing line-up of trains for you to choose from.

On board the Easter Eggspress there will be Easter eggs for all passengers with a Child ticket.

Route: Depart from Dublin Connolly and head south along the magnificent Dublin South Eastern Railway (DSER) passing Booterstown, Dun Loaghaire, the line hugs the coast line throughout to Wicklow.

On arrival in Wicklow, you will have the day to explore this pretty seaside town. Head to the beach for a walk, enjoy the bars and cafés of the town or make a visit to Wick Gaol. You will have just over 4 hours to enjoy yourself, before hopping back on board for a spirited run back to the capital by steam.
