The whole city transforms into a winder wonderland, with amazing trees, lights and decorations on display.

We have complied a list of our favourite things to do and see over this festive season. 

Turning on of the Christmas Lights

There is no official switch on event date this year, instead, there will be 30 streets full of christmas lights expected to be turned on during the start of November.  The mesmerising Christmas lights can be seen on Grafton Street, Henry Street and Smithfield Square. This will be a feast for the eyes as always.

Black Friday

Black Friday will take place on Friday 23rd of November. Come to Dublin and grab those bargains. There will be an amazing buzz around the city, with some saying that Christmas starts on Black Friday. Head to the city centre and take a wander around Grafton Street and Henry Street or hop on the Luas to Dundrum shopping centre, this is largest shopping centre in Ireland. Grab some serious bargains and fabulous Christmas presents.

Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo

Wild Lights is a must-see experience for family, friends and couples this festive season, where they will embark on an enchanted trail and discover a dazzling array of beautifully crafted, giant colourful lanterns inspired by wildlife. It will run from Thursday 1st  November  to Sunday 6th of January.
Visitors will be treated to an awe-inspiring display of lanterns which includes a pride of lions, orangutans, tigers, giraffes, monkeys and much more!
Other highlights include a 16-metre high porcelain elephant tower and a 30-metre long Chinese dragon. At the event, visitors will also be wowed by Chinese performers before browsing at the Chinese craft market, all in one unforgettable setting. There will also be a selection of Chinese foods and warm drinks available for visitors to purchase.
Admission is from 5 to 9pm and ticket prices are €20 for an adult and €15 for a child. Tickets can be bought here

Winter fun & Ice Skating

iSkate at the RDS

 iSkate is Ireland’s coolest ice skating event running  at the Winter Funderland in the RDS in Dublin. iSkate is not just Ireland’s newest ice rink, it offers an unrivalled skating experience and is over 1,000 square metres of real ice!

ISkate is open from November 23rd 2018 - January 13th 2019.

The main rink is 1000m2 and while it might be busy at times it is never overcrowded because they restrict the number of people that can take to the ice at any one time.
Ice Skating sessions at iSkate last for 50 minutes and it is essential that you arrive at the rink at least 20 minutes before your session is due to begin. If you arrive late you can join the session but they cannot add ice time for people who arrive late.
I-Skate is an accessible venue and they welcome people of all abilities

Dundrum Town Centre

Dundrum Town Centre's ice rink is open from October 26th 2018 to January 13th 2019.

Whether you are just starting out with ice skating or are a seasoned pro, Dundrum On Ice offers the highest quality seasonal ice skating experience in Dublin today.

They have a 500m² of crisp, white ice to get you skating from Halloween till the New Year.

There are some brilliant shows on over Christmas and in the New Year.

 

Les Misérables

Les Misérables will be on from 5th December to 12th January. Les Miserables, tells a story of Jean Valjean being freed after 19 years as a imprisonment by Javert , the officer in charge of the prison workforce. Valjean promptly breaks parole but later uses money from stolen silver to reinvent himself as a mayor and factory owner.

RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul's Drag Race winner Bob The Drag Queen will host Christmas Queens at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Monday December 10th 2018. ‘Tis the season to be Mary as the queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race tour Europe with a brand-new, hilarious, comedy-musical show, Christmas Queens. Featuring Live Performances By Asia O’Hara, Blair St. Clair, Eureka O’Hara, Kameron Michaels, Manila Luzon and Sharon Needles. This Christmas show is the perfect way to cap off a most magical year.

Celine Byrne

The internationally renowned soprano Celine Byrne returns to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for her annual Christmas Gala after last years’ sell out concert. For one night only on December 17th Celine will perform her “Christmas Celebration”, packed full of captivating Christmas Carols as well as much loved operatic arias accompanied by festive orchestra.

christmas Pantomines in dublin

Pantos at Christmas time have really taken off over the last decade. It seems to be somewhat of a tradition for some families to head to a Panto during the festive season. 

 

The Olympia Theatre - Polly and The Magic Lamp

Polly and The Magic Lamp runs from Friday 21st December 2018 to Sunday 6th January 2019 The Olympia Theatre.

Ireland's funniest family Panto is back and bigger than ever - it's simply unmissable! This year The Olympia Theatre is home to the most star studded show in the country.

There's something for everyone in this magical panto with stars of stage and screen, social media's biggest and brightest and one of Ireland's newest music sensations!

The Gaiety Theatre - The Snow Queen

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to the Gaiety Panto!  The Gaiety Theatre has hosted the annual Christmas Panto each year since 1873.  Today, families come from far and wide to experience  the Gaiety Christmas Panto and for many it has become as much a family Christmas tradition as Santa himself! This year’s fabulous Gaiety Theatre pantomime is The Snow Queen.

The Snow Queen runs from Sunday 25th November 2018 to Sunday 6th January 2019 at The Gaiety Theatre

Funderland at the RDS

Funderland is Irelands largest Christmas theme park and will be opening its doors at the RDS Dublin on St Stephens Day.

Funderland is open from December 26th 2018 - January 13th 2019.
