Every city has cinemas but what makes Dublin ones any different? We are lucky enough to have some really iconic and unique cinema venues. You won’t find anything like them in Ireland.  You may be doing a dry January and have had enough of the nights out over Christmas. Having a night away in a 4 star Dublin city hotel and a night at an iconic cinema will make for the perfect winter weekend break.

1.  The Lighthouse Cinema

The Lighthouse cinema is one of Ireland’s most vibrant cultural venue with 614 seats and 4 screens. There is also a café and an underground bar. This cinema has been awarded with some of the most prestigious awards including the Artinfo – Coolest Cinema in the World. It is home to some of Ireland’s nosr prestigious annual film festivals such as the Audi Dublin International Fil Festival. It is definitely worth checking out while you’re in Dublin. See more.

2. Stella Theatre, Rathmines

The Stella Theatre originally opened its doors in 1923. At the time it was the largest cinema in Ireland as it help up to 1,283 patrons. It since closed down and has been restored to its 1920’s glamourous glory in 2017. During the current restoration, some beautiful original 1920s features such as the original façade with granite pilasters were uncovered, along with a typical art deco handrail which guides you up to the first-floor balcony, detailed mosaic tiling of the original Stella logo and original decorative ceiling mouldings which have been kindly restored and dotted throughout the theatre. Sit back and relax in the large comfy armchairs and enjoy some food and cocktails which they will deliver straight to your seat. The Stella Cocktail Club is located upstairs, it has a quaint outdoor terrace where you can relax and enjoy your movie inspired cocktails. As it is so popular This is a truly unique night out. 3. The Sugar Club

Another unique and stunning venue opened in 1963 as The Irish Film Theatre is home to many types of cultural events one being cinema screenings. You can sit at a table, enjoy beers, cocktails and pizzas while you watch the movie. The Sugar Club is a must visit and it is only a 15 minute walk from the Grand Canal Hotel so you can stroll back here after an unforgettable cinema experience. 

4. Irish Film Institute

This is a really trendy cinema with two screens located in the heart of Temple Bar. It shows Irish and International small large screenings. They really promote Irish films and special screenings are shown at least once a month. They show free Irish movies at lunchtime daily. They also have a film shop on site where you can buy books, DVDs, box sets and cute crafts and gifts. It’s worth popping in for a look.  

5. Bord Gais Energy Theatre

This famous theatre often has screenings of popular and classic films and with some shows an orchestra perform the backing track, making it a magical experience. The theatre is an 8 minute walk from our hotel.

6. Private cinemas

If you have a special occasion coming up or if you and your friends just really love the cinema, you can privately hire small cinemas for your own use. Class.
Brooks Private Cinema on Drury Street in located in a hotel. They show classic films and it has 20 large comfy seats. You can opt for popcorn, wine or a cocktail. 

The Denzille Lane Cinema is a small and intimate venue with 30 seats. It is only available for private hire. With Valentines approaching you have the option of hiring the cinema just for the 2 of you with a film of your choice and a personal host for €195.

There are many more brilliant cinemas in Dublin such as Odeons, The Savoy and Omniplex's scattered around the city centre and the suburbs so if none of the above are your scene, these modern cinemas will more than suffice as they show all of the latest blockbusters.
