A little bit about the event..

The Dublin Marathon is an annual 26.2 mile (or 42.1Km) marathon in Dublin, Ireland, held on the last Sunday in October.

The course is generally reasonably flat. It starts at Fitzwilliam Square in the city centre and concludes at Merrion Square. Exact routing varies, although in recent years the race has proceeded in an anti-clockwise direction around the city including passing through the Phoenix Park before moving towards the southside suburbs.

With 25,000 expected runners, from 65 countries the race is the right size to give you that big race atmosphere.

The race is a single lap, starting and finishing close to the City Centre.

Dublin weather is usually ideal for marathon running, with average temperatures of between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius.

On Dublin Marathon RaceDay, road diversions and public transport disturbance is common, so to avoid unforeseen situations we recommend to book hotels close to dublin marathon.

Local Running/Walking Routes from the Grand Canal Hotel

Dublin is a culture-loving, vibrant capital where you’ll also find plenty of places to stretch your legs. There are hundreds of possible routes to pick from, but to get you started, here are three of our favourite local spots to power through on foot.

The Grand Canal  Two canals loop around Dublin city centre, arching north and south of the Liffey River. The more suitable route for letting fly is along the Grand Canal, to the south. It’s a popular spot that takes you from the ‘Silicon Docks’ – home to Google and Facebook’s European headquarters – alongside the swans, kayakers, locks, and cyclists. If you’ve got the puff, a long run here will take you right out of the capital to shady pastures and leisurely longboats.

Sandymount Strand  Dublin’s most central beachfront includes plenty of pavement to explore, all overlooking Dublin Bay, and being at close to sea level is about as flat a workout as you could hope for.

Phoenix Park  One of Europe’s largest city centre open spaces.  It’s through route is three kilometres one way, with countless offshoots, so you’ll have plenty to explore.

Fuel up before the big run!
